The Wyoming Territorial Prison in Laramie, Wyoming was built in 1872 and is one of the oldest buildings in Wyoming. It also has the distinction of being the only prison to house notorious outlaw Butch Cassidy. The prison was closed in 1903 and given to the University of Wyoming, which used the grounds for livestock breeding until 1989. In 1991, the facility was opened to the public. Featuring a very Western-looking stockade fence, this historic site offers restored historic buildings, museum exhibits, a nature trail, picnic area, gift shop and guided tours.

The Wyoming Territorial Prison is dog-friendly to well-behaved leashed pets in the outdoor area only. Dogs are not permitted in the buildings. There is a lot to see here, but we were not able to go in the buildings because of the dog restrictions. We did have a great time playing around in the old Marshal paddywagon outside though!
