Greenwood Pioneer Cemetery in Cañon City, Colorado is the oldest cemetery in the city. In addition to governor James Peabody (1903-1905), the cemetery is the final resting place for several other notable public servants, historical figures and Civil War veterans. In addition, there is are two sections in the cemetery reserved for prisoners. Many of these graves are marked by simple metal markers. Later burials in a section called “Woodpecker Hill” have names and dates on the markers, with some of the prisoners having headstones provided by their families.

The Woodpecker Hill section of Greenwood is home to many death row inmates and is also rumored to be haunted. There have been reports of shadows, orbs and laughing children.
