Mercur Cemetery is an old West cemetery located outside of the former ghost town of Mercur, Utah which was completely destroyed by strip mining. This cemetery is located up short and steep hill near the old Mercur town site in a canyon of the Oquirrh Mountains.
The Mercur Cemetery is filled with desert stones and wooden fences used to outline grave sites, with only one grave containing a headstone that is now illegible. Many of the graves are rumored to be those of children and the grave sites are filled with toys and stuffed animals that were brought by visitors. The cemetery is rumored to be haunted and the paranormal investigators frequently visit the site.
We can tell you that there is definitely something unusual about this cemetery in a somewhat disturbing way. It’s both sad, fascinating and genuinely creepy to the core. Even the dogs were not happy here and did not want to stick around. We brought toys for the children of the cemetery and left them on the graves. It is a location that was hard to visit but so fascinating that we would love to go back sometime.
